Most of the Victorian structure blew down in a gale in 1978. The pier building that remained was destroyed by a fire in 2002 and replaced by the current Pier Family Entertainment Centre.

Certainly an assault on the senses – lights, colours and noise! Plenty of variety for all ages, although there now seems to be a proliferation of the “win a ticket” type machine over cash prizes.
